Uptown Adventures

After Mike's family and Lindsey and Jason left, we decided to spend an adventure day uptown.

The boys were so excited about the light rail. Miles and Noah were really into counting the stops until our destination.

Our first stop Uptown was the Leonard Bearstein Symphony. Our walk to Founder's Hall was freezing, so as soon as we got inside, everyone peeled off their layers and sat down to relax/watch the show. This picture cracks me up. Everyone is thawing out, and don't they all look m-i-s-e-r-a-b-l-e (or bored, in Mike's case)? I swear that everyone had a really good time. haha

Griffin, of course, was entranced by the whole thing. He's too young to have remembered going last year.

Once they'd had their fill of the concert, the boys started running like crazy people in the big open area in Founders Hall.  Since it was practically vacant, Mike and I let them run for awhile -- then we took to the streets and made our way to Discovery Place.

I can't remember the last time we went to Discovery Place as a family. There were so many new exhibits (like the cute sailing one in the bottom pictures) to check out.  The boys also had fun building with the skinny blocks that we have at home.  My guys (including Mike) never seem to tire of building.  Mike built a huge, amazing tower for about 20 minutes.  He walked away to check out another exhibit with Griffin and Noah and a little squirt came by and knocked it right over.  I wanted to give the kid the evil eye for knocking over my groom's hard work instead of soaking it in, appreciating the masterpiece, calling others over to marvel at it too....  But I didn't.  I smiled at him.  (I'm such a wimp)  :)

Christmas with the Browns/Baileys

One of Miles' Christmas presents was a box set of Captain Underpants books. He loves them because they are full of potty words (e.g. a character called Professor Poopy-Pants) and I love them because they get him excited about reading and being read to. Miles and Noah logged many hours snuggled up to their grandfathers listening to Captain Underpants stories (one morning, Mike's dad had read an entire book to them - maybe 120 pages? - before I even came downstairs at 7:30am!). Here's my dad with the boys on the morning of 12/26. He used the most hilarious voices and inflection and really hammed up all of the "bad" words. They boys were entranced.

Later on the 26th, Mike's parents, his sister, Shannon and our niece Mason arrived. It was awesome to have so much family in our home. I love being around ALL of my sisters (don't mind me, sporting my Mrs Doubtfire outfit amidst my cute sisters. I should have been ashamed of myself).

While we were all together, we buckled down, got out the tripod, and took an entire family picture. Would be fun to get a professional one at Dana and Brad's wedding (hint, hint).  :)

The boys love being around their aunts and their cousin!

Love this sweet picture of Lindsey and Mason. Mason is going to be the cutest flower girl in Dana and Brad's wedding next month!

My amazing husband and the incredible woman who raised him (with Bob!). Glad to know my boys will still be teasing me 30+ years from now!

Peggy and Bob gave the boys these super cute robes for Christmas. The boys immediately began imitating Yoda from Star Wars (Noah had just opened an awesome Yoda lovie from Shannon and Mason that gave them the idea). They suited up in their robes, put the hoods up, and grabbed their light sabers (a favorite gift also from Aunt Shannon and Mason). Here are our little warriors.

I have to include at least a few pictures of us playing games. Its one of the best parts of family-time, right? Lindsey and Jason gave Miles Samba De Amigos.  We adults cracked up as we played it (and I love the picture of Shannon and Peggy dancing in the background while Mike is playing).

We also played Apples to Apples. Mike and I were in heaven with my entire family about the table, even though we both tied for last place. :)

Thank you to everyone for coming to Charlotte this year!

Christmas

There was much to be thankful for this Christmas!  My parents were here, Lindsey and Jason were in town, and Dana and Brad joined us Christmas night.  It was great. We set our tree up on the playroom/sunroom this year. I loved it there.

Miles and Noah woke up a little after 7am and we let them open their stockings, while Griffin slept in for about 30 more minutes.  They were all excited to find a new book (thank you, Santa!), bakugans, lego toys, animal nesting dolls,  matching scarves that look like snakes (super cute!), and holiday pez.  Within moments, they were eating pez, building legos, and tearing into their nesting toys.  The first thing Noah wanted me to do was read his book.  It was so sweet.

I think Griffin was anxiously awaiting a pez candy here. :)

It was still dark outside, and my dad was already helping the boys build their new lego guys/vehicles. (Notice the boys' pjs.  This was the first year their new jammies weren't matching holiday ones.  Noah had asked for Bakugan pjs for Christmas.  Miles and Griffin wanted Mario Brothers.  They couldn't have been more excited when they opened these on Christmas Eve.)

Santa also gave the boys a new Mario Kart driving game for the Wii. Miles has already logged many miles on this game. He loves it. Noah loves to watch from the grandstands (i.e. positioned on the couch, with his treasures of the day around him). Griffin zooms in periodically to get in the way of the game, turn off the system, or just make mischief -- all while smiling, laughing, and running to escape the fury of his older brother. :)

This was the first year Miles and Noah had a big part in the gift giving for me and Mike. Noah wanted to give Mike and frame with this picture inside. He picked out the frame by himself and selected the picture from our family photo shoot with Hope. He was elated when Mike opened it.

A very special snow globe of mine (passed down to me from my Nona) broke while we were decorating for Christmas this year. Miles remembered how disappointed I was and he selected a new one, very similar one, for me. I was teary.

The boys opened all of their presents Christmas morning (we adults waited until my sisters arrived that night). It was so nice to have my parents here during that time. Extra hands to break open packages, insert batteries, take pictures, share funny moments. It was awesome.

After unwrapping gifts, my mom and I started cooking. My dad proceeded to spend H-O-U-R-S building (off-label) lego cars for the boys. It became pretty clear, early on, why I'd found them at TJMaxx. The instructions were awful and they kept falling apart. The boys love them, though. I just have to store them high up -- they are more for looking than playing. :)

Dana and Brad spent the morning in TN with his mom and then drove to Charlotte so that we could all be together. Check out Dana's tshirt. L.O.V.E. it. :)

Dana and Brad gave the boys these super cool bball hats with lights built into the rim. They added different patches onto each boys hat to personalize them. Griffin got Lightening McQueen, Noah got Iron Man, Miles got Speed Races. They also gave each of them a pair of those awesome fuzzy crocs.

This memory cracks me up. Remember this, Lindsey & Dana?

We had a fun night opening presents, laughing, taking pictures of each other with our new stuff (Brad in his headlamp, Lindsey and Jason in their reflective pinnies, haha). Love this picture of Lindsey and Jason as they opened their surprise gift from my parents (a much needed tv/dvd combo). No more old tv, stored on a roll-away kitchen cart/in the closet for them!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve

I love Christmas Eve.  I love the traditions of going to church, going out to eat, driving around to see the lights, opening one present (always christmas pjs and usually a new ornament), hearing my dad recite Twas The Night Before Christmas (the very best rendition I have ever heard, I must say).  Its perfect.

The boys were excited to have their Gram and Pop around. Miles and Gram played a very competitive games of Squares.

The boys crowded around my dad, as he send a e-birthday card to his brother.
DSC_0039

Lindsey and Jason spent Christmas Eve with us too (it was their year to stay with Jason's parents, who also live in Charlotte). We all went to church and had a great dinner at Red Rocks. I wish I'd had someone take a picture of all of us at dinner, but with my 50 mm lens, I think they would have had to leave the restaurant to get us all in the frame. The one downside of my lens. :)

Time to go home and wait for Santa?! Let's GO!
DSC_0058

We never took a immediate family picture around the tree this year (the shock! the horror!) but Mike and I did pose for this one after dinner. Not sure which one I like better, so I'm including both. I'm such a rebel.

We were all entranced as my dad recited "twas the night before Christmas." I captured it on video this year. Can't wait to download that video and listen again. Its magical.

Before heading to bed, we threw out the reindeer food that Griffin made in preschool. (I think Mike was secretly thankful that it poured on Christmas to wash away the left-over oatmeal and glitter in the yard. :)  Here comes Christmas!...
